Olive Oil Beauty Tips
February 12, 2010

Simply put- it’s pure. So pure, it’s often called extra virgin.
If you’ve never used olive oil on your skin, let it touch you for the first time and give you that summer glow.
Break open your cupboard and use some natural olive oil to repair your dry skin, damaged hair and more.
Olive oil is the only oil made from a fruit. It’s not only good for your heart, but also great to apply on your body. Holistic Healer, Stephanie Moore gives these olive oil beauty tips:
“Cuticles and nails: If your cuticles are ragged and your nails are brittle, soak your nails in a cup of olive oil.
Feet: Before you go to bed, smear olive oil on your feet, put on socks, and you’ll wake up in the morning with the softest feet ever.
Lips: Soothe your dry, chapped lips, by dabbing on a little olive oil.
Hair: Massage olive oil on your scalp and hair. Cover your hair with a shower or bathing cap and leave on for about 30 minutes. Shampoo. Olive oil helps repair split ends, heals dandruff, and makes your hair silky, and lustrous. Put a few drops on your hair when it’s dry to eliminate the frizz.
Skin: Rub olive oil on your hands to soften and moisturize. It’s rich in squalene, a natural organic compound and emollient that penetrates the skin, and won’t leave a greasy film on it.
Bath: Add a few tablespoons of olive oil to your bath to soothe your skin.
Makeup remover: Use a little olive oil on a Q-tip to take your makeup off. It’s as good as any drugstore brand.”
Look for olive oil in lip balms, shampoo, hand lotion and soaps – and always use the purest extra virgin olive oil, which is the least processed, and gets its oil from the first pressing of olives.
Use extra virgin olive oil not only internally for your inner health, but externally for your outer beauty as well.
Now’s the time to stop being an (olive oil) virgin.

The Head Lice Olive Oil Treatment
February 8, 2010

Do you or a loved one have head lice? Don’t be embarrassed as the best of us have had them at one point or another in our lives. And you need not rush off to the chemist to purchase an over the counter head lice treatment either – especially if you cant get to the chemist. With the use of a natural treatment you can be head lice free in a very short time. All you need to do to remove the head lice is give the infected head an olive oil treatment.
You’re Equipment
For this process to work effectively the whole household needs to undergo the head lice olive oil treatment . You begin with yourself and then work your way through each of your family member’s one by one. You will only get re-infested with head lice if the other members of your home do not undergo some kind of head lice home treatment. To take care of your bedding and sleepwear put them in the dryer (if you have one) and let them tumble around on high heat for ten minutes. That will be hot enough to kill the eggs. If you don’t have a dryer wash in very hot water and hang to dry.
Now don’t go using the best oil in the cupboard(the cheaper the better), the head lice are not that fussy and using extra virgin imported olive oil for a head lice olive oil treatment is very painful to your bank account. You will need the smallest tooth comb you have but if you don’t have one on hand use the fine end of your regular comb. You also need a roll of paper towels. If you have on hand lavender or tea tree essential oil you can also add this as head lice hate the smell of these oils.
The Next Step
In your bathtub or shower get your hair as wet as you can. Then mix ten parts olive oil to one part essential oil, or just slathers the oil on. The oil has to be plastered on your head. Leave it in your hair for at least fifteen minutes, allowing time for the head lice to suffocate. When the fifteen minutes are up comb your hair thoroughly, wiping the comb on the paper towels after each swipe. There will be nits caught in the olive oil. Then rinse your head.
The worst part of this process is that it is time consuming and that you will most likely need to repeat this procedure once more in three days or so. Repeat it anyway in less than a week even if you don’t see any signs of head lice, just to make sure you caught any eggs that have hatched since the first head lice olive oil treatment.

What is the best olive oil and brand to use on breads?
February 6, 2010
I cant ever seem to find the type of olive oil they use in Italian restaurants. I hear extra virgin olive oil or whatever is the best, but what brand?
Any type of Extra Virgin Olive Oil will do excellently with bread, whether it’s for brushing on top of the bread for garlic toast, or to use for dipping.
My favorite recipe for dipping is:
EVOO
fresh basil, torn – not chopped
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced fine
‘tich of salt & pepper
‘tich of oregano – dried.
Using a fork, push down and mix together ingredients. Let sit for several hours, and every now-and-then, remash with fork.
Now, the next question would be…what type of bread to use? LOL
French, Sourdough or any that you like!
Enjoy – and good eating!
What Type Of Olive Oil Does What?
February 5, 2010
I love olive oil, but I can never seem to get the usage right. What’s the difference between extra virgin olive oil and other kinds (I’ve only seen extra virgin in the stores). Can I sautéed with that? Dip bread? What kinds do I need for which activities?
Olive Oil Varieties: (ranked from highest to lowest quality) extra-virgin, superfine, fine, virgin, and pure
The quality of olive oil is related to the olive and when the oil was produced from the olive – on the first crushing is “virgin” or “extra virgin”, after that you are into a different territory, not nec. bad, just different.
Finer extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) can be very expensive, but decent quality EVOO is widely available at reasonable costs and can be used for cooking. There are certainly EVOO’s you would not want to cook with, but this is cost related more than cooking capabilities. EVOO is especially for dipping, infusions, salad dressings and raw purposes as the flavor and scent are lighter.
Other olive oils will tend to be darker in appearance and stronger in scent. Some people like this a lot for all purposes. Many just use this for cooking as they feel the EVOO is overkill for this in terms of cost.
